Resistant cockroaches or garden pests? My day-to-day protecting homes

Living in our area, between the scent of sea salt and the Murcian orchard, is a privilege. However, this unique environment also presents small challenges when it comes to unwanted "tenants".

This week, my route took me to San Pedro del Pinatar to attend to two cases that sum up the concerns of many residents well: a kitchen invaded by "immortal" cockroaches and a garden that needed some care before spring makes everything more complicated.

Cockroaches in the kitchen: Why are they still there if you've already gone through can after can of spray?

Many clients tell me the same thing: "I've tried every insecticide at the supermarket and they keep coming back". In this flat in San Pedro, the situation was clear.

During the inspection, we identified the main source of the German cockroach (the small, light-coloured one) hidden in the hot spots: behind the fridge, the dishwasher and even in a deep fryer that hadn't been used.

The most common mistake is the use of commercial sprays, as these pests develop resistance to common over-the-counter substances. That is why, after asking the owners to clear the cupboards, we applied a specific active ingredient (non-pyrethroid) against which this type of cockroach has no defence.

It is essential to respect a 12-hour safety period to guarantee the effectiveness and, above all, the safety of the treatment. My recommendation is to carry it out early in the day, so that the family can return home to sleep that same night with complete peace of mind.

Safety and prevention: The risk of nearby uninhabited homes

A common problem in areas such as San Javier, Lo Pagán or Los Alcázares is the proximity of second-residence properties that remain empty for months. In this case, we detected mouse droppings: these rodents take advantage of the quiet in uninhabited homes to colonise them and then enter occupied houses in search of food.

Cleaning alone is not enough; it is necessary to install monitoring barriers to prevent a small incursion from turning into a pest that is difficult to control. In urban and coastal environments, prevention is always the best tool.

Healthy citrus trees and gardens free of unexpected "visitors"

Just ten minutes away, we took care of a garden with several citrus trees. With the arrival of spring, this is the ideal time to apply winter phytosanitary treatments. We use pneumatic spraying technology to ensure the product penetrates the vegetation well without wasting resources.
